In 1805, Thomas Kirkpatrick built a one-room log cabin on the ridge above Cahokia Creek, a cabin that still stands to this day in Edwardsville. It’s concealed under new siding at 1712 North Main Street, and it is the oldest known building in Edwardsville.
The City Park is more than 2,000 acres, and it’s the most centrally located park in the town. It is joined by Park, Kansas, Buchanan, and Vandalia Streets, and is the site of the Edwardsville Public Library. Facilities include the Cleon Etzkorn bandstand, park benches, the beautiful park fountain, donated by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bearden and the Madison County Centennial Monument. A community park, there are always large community festivals and events that are conducted each year there.
